Gabrielle in theGreat Lake during the second task of the Triwizard Tournament
On31 October1994, Gabrielle's older sister, Fleur was chosen asBeauxbatons Academy of Magic's champion in theTriwizard Tournament, which was understandably considered to be a great honour.[8] Because eight-year-old Gabrielle was treasured by Fleur above anything else she was taken into theBlack Lake under the influence of amagical spell during theSecond Task.[2]
Fleur failed to reach her due to agrindylow attack and the negative effects of being underwater.Harry Potter, the fourth champion of the tournament, had already found the hostages and held off a hoard ofMerpeople. Harry then brought Gabrielle to the surface of the lake, along with his own hostage and best friendRon Weasley.[2]

From that time on, both Fleur and Gabrielle treated Harry and Ron with a great deal of kindness. Gabrielle waved at Harry on the day of the Third Task, when visiting her sister along with her parents.[9] She then returned to France with her family after the tournament ended.[10]
Fleur's wedding[]
- "Gabrielle was Fleur in miniature; eleven years old, with waist-length hair of pure, silvery blonde, she gave Mrs Weasley a dazzling smile and hugged her, then threw Harry a glowing look, batting her eyelashes."
- — Gabrielle flirting with Harry Potter[src]

Gabrielle and her parents at her sister's wedding
Gabrielle was chosen as a bridesmaid for her older sister'swedding toBill Weasley atThe Burrow in the summer of1997, when she was eleven years old.[6] Upon meeting Harry again, Gabrielle batted her eyelashes at him.Ginny Weasley, Fleur's other bridesmaid, cleared her throat loudly at this, as she was evidently still somewhat possessive of Harry. Gabrielle then assisted Fleur with wedding preparations, speaking rapidly in French as she went. She participated in the ceremony wearinga golden dress and looking "even prettier thanusual".[11]
Gabrielle became the sister-in-law ofBill Weasley and the aunt ofVictoire Weasley,Dominique Weasley, andLouis Weasley due to the wedding.[12] She also became a relative by marriage of the famousHarry Potter, through his marriage toGinny Weasley.
Later life[]
Following the war, Gabrielle started attending Beauxbatons Academy of Magic like her sister. During her time as a student, she used to play as aChaser in for theBeauxbatons Quidditch team.[3]
Physical description[]
Gabrielle was described as being her older sister,Fleur, in miniature, and therefore breathtakingly beautiful: she had waist-length, silvery-blondehair, and a smile described as "dazzling".[2]
Personality and traits[]
Much like her other family members, Gabrielle appeared to be a gracious, pleasant girl, as she was immensely grateful towards Harry Potter for having honourably saved her in the Second Task of theTriwizard Tournament.[2]
She may have even developed a crush on Harry afterwards, as at thewedding of her sister and brother-in-law, she was noted to have given Harry a "glowing look" and batted her eyelashes, but she might have just been very appreciative of him instead.[11]
Magical abilities and skills[]
- Flying: Gabrielle seemed to be a skilledbroomstick flyer andQuidditch player, given that she played asChaser for theBeauxbatons Quidditch team.[3]
Etymology[]
- Gabrielle is the French feminine form of the Hebrew nameGabriel, meaning "man of god".[13] In the bible, Gabriel is the name of a prominent angel.
- "Delacour" is formed by the three French words "de", "la" and "cour" which directly translates to "of the court".
Behind the scenes[]

Gabrielle inHarry Potter: Quidditch Champions
- In thefilm adaptation ofHarry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Gabrielle, at 8 years old, is already attendingBeauxbatons Academy of Magic based on her attire. This means that she is 11 years-old at thewedding of William Weasley and Fleur Delacour, but looks much older. Alternately, it is possible Gabrielle is older in the films than in the books, in the same way thatRomilda Vane is two years older in film continuity.
- Gabrielle is portrayed byBritish actressAngelica Mandy in thefilm adaptation ofHarry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and theHarry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1.[14]
- In thefilm adaptation ofHarry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, she says goodbye toRon and gives him a kiss on the cheek. In the novel, she does not say goodbye to Ron. In the film, she is seen doing back flips down the aisle. We later see her sitting next to her sister looking at the cup.
- Gabrielle shares several similarities withGinny Weasley. Both have names starting with G, were youngest sisters and members of their families, also younger than Harry (Ginny by one year while Gabrielle by six years), were selected as bridesmaids at Bill and Fleur's wedding, were mentioned by their older siblings as having never stopped talking about Harry Potter, and were saved by Harry from a perilouswater-filled location — Gabrielle from the Great Lake during the Triwizard Tournament and Ginny from theChamber of Secrets in1993.
- InLEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4, it is confirmed that Gabrielle already has a wand at age eight and that she can performmagic of the level of afourth year Hogwarts student. This seems to support the theory that Beauxbatons students start at a younger age than Hogwarts students. However, her ability to work quite advanced magic in such game is likely only down to game-play reasons, as herspell-casting abilities are no different from any other wizard/witch character in the game.[7]
