Escalator

Anescalator is a moving staircase, used byMuggles in places where using lifts would be impractical.

History[]

In1992,Arthur Weasley referred to escalators as "escapators", and seemed intrigued with learning how they function.^[1]

The escalators in thetrain station nearCharing Cross Road were broken down on31 August,1991. This, combined with the fact that the ticket barriers and train seats were too small to accommodate him, and that he felt the trains ran too slowly, causedRubeus Hagrid to wonder aloud toHarry Potter how Muggles manage withoutmagic.^[2]

Harry Potter and Arthur Weasley took an escalator on their way to theMinistry of Magic for Harry'sdisciplinary hearing in1995. Arthur seemed uncomfortable riding it, keeping his legs stiff and close together, his knees bended and both hands on the handrails.^[3]
