Duncan Ashe was awizard who attendedHogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the second half of the 20th century and wasSorted intoSlytherin.
Biography[]
Hogwarts years[]
Duncan Ashe was friends withJacob from his first day at school until his dying day. The two were noted to be mischief makers by others, and frequently visitedZonko's Joke Shop. At some point, he and Jacob also broke theirbrooms.[4] He was also friends with the schoolpoltergeist,Peeves,[5] and withOlivia Green, aRavenclaw student from his year.[6]
Sometime during the1970s or1980s, he died when compelled byR to concoct anErumpent Potion, which exploded while he was preparing it and killed him.[4]
Post-mortem[]
After his death, Duncan returned as aghost and stayed at Hogwarts, though he rarely showed himself to the other residents of the Castle.[3]
During the1988–1989 school year, he agreed to arrange a meeting withPeeves for Jacob's sibling so they could get theVault portrait from him, where he warned them Peeves would request chaos on his terms.[7] He later helped Jacob's sibling appease Peeves byunleashing various forms of chaos upon the school in order to persuade Peeves to hand over theVault portrait. He was also in the Prefect's Bathroom when Peeves offered them aself-portrait, which they politely declined.[5]

Duncan Ashe speaking to Charlie and Jacob's sibling
During the1989–1990 school year, Jacob's sibling andCharlie Weasley sought him out in the Prefects' Bathroom, where Jacob's sibling expressed their apologies for not visiting him often and asked him for advice as to where he thought Jacob could be. He expressed the view that Jacob was purely selfish but that he would likely be found in theBoathouse, as that was where they both often hung out together while unwittingly working for 'R'. After that, he told Jacob's sibling not to hold their breath about their brother, as he never had any breath to hold anyway, and he vanished into the toilet cubicles.[8]
During the1990–1991 school year, Duncan became reunited with Olivia and Jacob at Hogwarts. Although reluctant, Jacob's sibling persuaded him to meet them at theGreat Lake, where he eventually embraced them as his old friends.[9]
Personality and traits[]
When he was alive, Duncan loved making mischief and was noted to be a mischief maker by others along with his friend,Jacob. After he died, he isolated himself and rarely showed himself to the other residents of the Castle. He was angry and resentful at Jacob for taking the blame for 'R' and joining them, though the two later reconciled, a fact that was presumably partially inspired by the fact that Jacob had turned on the Cabal.
Magical abilities and skills[]
- Potions: Duncan was adept in the art of making potions, as he made a powerfulErumpent Potion, albeit one that killed him in an explosion.[4]
- Flying:Madam Hooch described Duncan Ashe as an "excellent flier", meaning he was highly skilled with flying on abroomstick.[4]

Notes and references[]
- ↑He was in the same school year asJacob, whose year of birth range is given as this. Jacob was expelled during the1980–1981 school year.Angelica Cole knew Jacob when she was at school, and that was her first year, meaning he could not have been expelled before then, andLord Voldemort, whom he was rumoured to serve, was vanquished on31 October1981, meaning he could not have been expelled afterwards. Since this was his final year, he must have been born in either of those two years.
