History[]
1890–1891 school year[]
During the late19th century, the staircase possessed a much different layout than its later form. Rather than a spiral staircase, it was a labyrinthine maze of different staircases, all positioned in different ways throughout the interior of the tower, and each leading to different classrooms, such asMagical Theory (inClass 67) and itsrespective hallway, as well as the standardDefence Against the Dark Arts classroom. The tower contained various artefacts, such as theSerpentine Beast Window.[2]
The tower interior was richly decorated in red and white marble, with hardwood flooring, suits of armour, tapestries andportraits, and richly panelled walls.[2]
There were various places within the towers that students could hang out or study – areas with benches orsofas. At the very base of the tower was the entrance to theUndercroft, a secretive part of the castle that was frequented by members of theHouse of Gaunt (such asOminis Gaunt, during his school years) – as well as the equally secretive entrance to theHall of Herodiana.[2]
1994–1995 school year[]
