Corey Hayden

Corey Hayden was awizard or witch who attendedHogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry from1984 to1991 and was Sorted intoGryffindor. They wereHead Boy or Girl during the1990–1991 school year.^[3]

Biography[]

Hogwarts years(1984–1991)[]

Corey began attendingHogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in1984 and was Sorted intoGryffindor.^[3] In theirthird year, Corey tookMuggle Studies as one of their electives.^[7] In theirseventh year, they were appointedHead Boy or Girl.^[3]

Seventh year[]

Corey had an interest inmagical history, and at the start of the1990–1991 school year, they were seen talking to a crowd aboutEmeric the Evil in theHistory of Magic Classroom.Tulip Karasu introducedJacob's sibling to them, who despite also beingHead Boy or Girl had never formally met them.^[3]

Later, when Jacob's sibling wanted to studywandless magic but couldn't enter theRestricted Section where all the books about it resided, Corey told them a little bit about it themselves and used theBombardment Spell in theLibrary out of the blue, gaining Jacob's sibling access to theKitchens for both detention and the opportunity to talk tohouse-elves who were regular users of wandless magic.^[8]

After the long-anticipated wandless duel between Jacob's sibling andMerula Snyde took place, Corey revealed they knew something was off with Merula. They later explained that they came to the conclusion by observing Jacob's sibling's behaviour in their interactions with them and Merula. Corey decided they wanted to team up with Jacob's sibling in solving the mystery, so Jacob's sibling told them about Merula's resolve in joiningR. Corey then attendedMuggle Studies class with Jacob's sibling while spying on Merula. During the whole lesson, Merula was taking notes, but at the end turned it into ablack quill that looked likeR's, and secretly passed it toIsmelda. Jacob's sibling then left to follow Ismelda to theowlery. They later came back and told Corey the letter was about a secret meeting in theArtefact Room.^[7]

At night, Corey put on anInvisibility Cloak with Jacob's sibling and waited outside the room, during which they talked aboutThe Detective Files of Conebush and Persimmons and the lessons they had learnt from it, including that the guilty wasn't necessarily the first suspect. They then saw Merula heading to the Artefact Room with a figure in a black cloak, but before they could get close enough,Argus Filch stopped them and made them turn around. When Filch was finally gone, they headed to the Artefact Room and caught Merula andBadeea Ali in it. They explained that Badeea was only Merula'sCharms tutor and had been secretly helping her due to it being "humiliating". The next day, Corey and Jacob's sibling reviewed the information they had so far.^[7]

When Jacob's sibling went back to Hogwarts from theMinistry, they updated them with their experience of participating in thestudent assignment programme, including information of the curse on theenchanted windows (which later turned out to be theAtmospheric Charm) and theinfiltration by anunidentified Metamorphmagus. Corey suspected theDark Witch in Knockturn Alley to be this Metamorphmagus based on the description of her transformation in theprevious school year given by Jacob's sibling.^[9]

In the Library, after Jacob's sibling andLiz Tuttle researchedWampus cats for their new assignment, Corey caught Jacob's sibling up with recent investigations.^[10]

At some point later, Corey intercepted a note (transfigured as a quill) from Merula, which said that she wouldn't put her friends in danger again. Jacob's sibling met with Corey inThree Broomsticks and talked about thephoenix feather wand stolen fromOllivanders and the note Corey intercepted.^[5]

Before theWizengamot trial of thewhite-robed wizard, Jacob's sibling spoke to Corey about Merula in theGreat Hall. The two noticedVictor Ketsueki, aRavenclaw student in their year, talking to a bunch of students about his experience as avampire. They then went to theWhomping Willow and foundanother note which warned the receiver not to cross "us". It was likely a reply to Merula's note about not putting her friends in danger, suggesting that Merula and R may not have now been completely on the same side. Just as theyUntransfigured it back to a black quill, Merula arrived and confronted them, but they fobbed her off and soon left. The two then discussed the note and Merula in the Artefact Room, and thought it would be a good idea to ask Merula to become a double agent. Suddenly, aDoxy flew out and bit Corey.^[11]

During their seventh year, they became a member of theCircle of Khanna, a secret student society dedicated to the memory ofRowan Khanna and combatingR.^[6]

Corey accompanied Jacob and their sibling to theWizengamottrial ofKazuhiro Shiratori in theBritish Ministry of Magic, which happened inCourtroom Ten. During the trial, when Jacob fell under the effects ofDolores Umbridge'sVeritaserum, Corey delayed the trial by announcing aDoxy was in the courtroom, allowing the three to briefly exit and wait for the potion's effects to wear off on Jacob. When the trial recommenced, Shiratori was found guilty of all charges and sentenced to life imprisonment inAzkaban, much to the group's joy.^[12]

Corey hid the Dark Scroll insideVictor Ketsuekicoffin for safekeeping, without his knowledge however.Fred andGeorge Weasley took the coffin as a prank and hid it in theHogwarts kitchens. When Victor informed Corey and Jacob's sibling of the coffin's disappearance in theGreat Hall, Corey was extremely worried, as that was where the scroll was hidden, so finding it was a matter of urgency. They later found it in the kitchens, where the Scroll was safe and sound, and Corey and Jacob's sibling later met Jacob by theGreat Lake to inform him that they had the Scroll.^[13]

Magical abilities and skills[]

• Charms: Corey was skilled with the casting of theBombardment Spell.^[8]
• History of Magic: Corey was interested and knowledgeable in the field ofmagical history.^[3] For example, they were very knowledgeable about the legend ofDai Ryusaki and hisDark Scroll.^[14]
• Muggle Studies: Corey took Muggle Studies classes atN.E.W.T. level, meaning they must have gained anOrdinary Wizarding Level in the subject.^[7]

• Their gender is always the opposite ofJacob's sibling's gender, in case the player becomesHead Boy or Girl too in theHead Boys and Girls adventure.
