Added guard to figure out where the invalid state of index volumes originate from.
This branch/PR should not be merged, it only exists to trace a random error that happens in a single test.
The issue seems to be related to handling index file uploads during the compact process.
Here, it appears there is a retry that causes the BackendManager.PutOperation to be in an invalid state where it thinks it needs to close the volume, but the volume has already been closed.
Tracing so far shows that the two attempts to finish the volume are both in
BackendManager.PutOperation.cs:236.
