Anybody tried a recent build image? I heard that Mozilla folks were doing massive surgery on B2G.
Do the images even boot? Run well enough to be worth trying to use?
Starting from now, FFOS 2.5 will be the last version of Firefox OS on smartphone. I'm waiting from@Vosky to confirm that his build Pre-released 2.5 and the nightlies are now the same and not evolving anymore. In that case we better all update to the last stable build of FFOS2.5.
However, Mozilla's community decided to keep going with B2G OS (code name that was use before Firefox OS, a return to the roots of the project), a 100% web based OS so there are a lot of things to be rewritten and now there is a transition branch that offers a quiet broken B2G OS. Let's hope that in near future (3month) it will be working good enough to be used daily. Right now the transition branch has been build only on Z3C and Flame.
I don't know if@Vosky and@eyoome are already working on porting the transition branch to Nexus 5 or if they want to wait that it gets a bit more stable first.

Hi Thatoo,

Sorry for delay, I am quite busy:).
Regarding the difference between FxOS 2.5 and 2.6, to be honest, I don't know:D. See the git version of your system to see if some comits have been done recently (just to see if some changes have been done...).
For now, the transition branch is above all for developers. The first target is just to have homescreen, keyboard, web browser and eventually system-setting functional. So it's useless for users imho. I guess some info will come soon.

Thank you@eyoome, I understand, the world is moving fats and if we don't pay attention we get easily busy:)
Message from benfrancis on discourse,https://discourse.mozilla-community...r-flame-on-transition-kanikani-branch/8024/18 , :

At some point the transition branch should be merged back into master, so it should only be a temporary measure.

What is currently working is changing every day (there will be a further update at today's weekly meeting), but currently off the top of my head it's basically:

Lock screen is working
Status bar and utility tray work
Keyboard works
Can create new browser windows and browse the web
Can configure WiFi and set the date and time in Settings (accessed via the utility tray)

The meta bug is a good place to track progress and is the main source of truth, there's also a tracker which tracks our high level progress through the backlog of work in two week sprints.

A very interesting remark from benfrancis on discourse :

I'd like to highlight a point on naming. There is no "re-brand" taking place here and B2G OS is not a "separate project" to Firefox OS.
Firefox OS is a product name for the B2G (Boot to Gecko) open source project, the project has been called B2G since before the Firefox OS brand was created and this continues to be the case.

Development on the B2G project is ongoing and the Firefox OS brand is also still in use for Smart TVs. They are two names for the same software depending on how it is used (just like the Firefox brand for the Mozilla browser project). Firefox OS is a registered trademark of the Mozilla Corporation which is in active use for Smart TVs and may be used for other connected devices products in future, but anyone can use the B2G software under the B2G name for any purpose they wish.

If documentation is out of date (e.g. because an API has been deprecated) then it needs updating, but this applies to both the B2G project and any Firefox OS products which may be built with it.

It does make sense to use the project name on MDN for documentation, particularly in cases where the software being documented is not in use in any commercial Firefox OS product (e.g. smartphone pieces going forward), but this is not a re-brand.

There is a transition to a new architecture for B2G and an effort to find new owners for smartphone-specific modules in the community (consistent with Mozilla's module ownership system), but it is not a fork or a separate project, it's a temporary branch which will soon be merged back into the master branch of the project.

B2G OS Transition Monthly meeting just finished. Here is the padhttps://public.etherpad-mozilla.org/p/b2gos-transition-2016-04-25
Code Transition Status:
System, lockscreen, homescreen, search, settings and keyboard running as chrome
You can:
Unlock the device
Configure WiFi
Configure date and time
Use the keyboard
Browse the web

Still to do:
Add sites to homescreen (in progress)
Use the dialer to make phone calls (in progress)
Finish cleaning up legacy APIs in Gecko
Fix all the things...

Ways to help:
Build & test the transition brancheshttps://wiki.mozilla.org/B2G/Transition_Project#Building_the_Transition_Branches
Pick up a transition bughttps://bugzilla.mozilla.org/showdependencytree.cgi?id=1252143&hide_resolved=1
Port a smartphone app to the webhttps://github.com/mozilla-b2g/gaia/tree/kanikani/dead_apps

Hi,

As you can see, nightlies are not post anymore.
I do not stop builds, it is an issue.
I tried to fix it for weeks but can't find solution...
As "official" Firefox OS is at end of its life, it seems useless to continue to fix it.
We will wait for B2G community version and build it for Nexus 5 if it is possible.

2.6 version is out, but there is same issue as nightly.
Script is still launch everyday, 2.6 and nightly will be post if I find solution.

Even so, here is a good news :
Thanks to
@vandyswa, we have an American mirror ! =>https://ffos-usa.vosky.fr
Files are EXACTLY the sames as ffos.vosky.fr.
This website is here to improve bandwidth for American users.
You can also use it as backup website, if mine is dead.
But please don't use it too much because he have 4 TB/month limitation.
He give to us 2TB/month.
After this quota, I will disable the subdomain until the end of the month.
So big thank to@vandyswa ! :good::good::good:

B2GOS Transition Project is on going. The build is broken now for every device maybe except for Flame.
I think we have to wait for a while.

Hello,

I have some good news.
Firstly, we added v2.6.
We now have all Mozilla versions from 1.4 to v2.6 !

Secondly, I am working with
@danielrocher to build nightly B2GOS !
Accurately, he made all the work and sent me a howto.
I just translate it into script language.
So if in few days you see new nightly builds onffos.vosky.fr, please spam his thanks button, he deserves it.

But B2GOS nithly builds need lot of modifications, it would be hard to maintain Mozilla's versions and B2GOS.
This is why I will build all Mozilla versions one last time tomorrow then switch to B2GOS.
So don't worry if there is no builds next week(s), we are not dead.
I did not receive news from@eyoome for few weeks but I am mostly sure he is still alive.

If you want to test B2GOS now on Nexus 5,@danielrocher uploaded his build here :https://discourse.mozilla-community.org/t/test-b2gos-on-nexus-5/9405

Thanks for your support.:)
As Marketplace belong to Mozilla, like "Firefox", I think community do not have right to use it.
So for now you can't install apps.
You can only add bookmarks on your homepage for now.
As Firefox OS apps was web apps, it is mostly the same.

    Hi,

We are switching to a new build config.
Till today, builds were made on a computer at home then uploaded to ffos.vosky.fr.
Home computer have good hardware but slow connexion and ffos.vosky have Gameboy harware with 1 Gb/s connexion.
Upload from home to ffos take about 6 hours.
That is why we never upload more than 2 builds per day.

In the new config, builds will be make ON ffos.vosky, a REAL server with great hardware and 100 Mb/s connexion.
We are still working on it, we have some issues during compilations.

    So, what already changed ?
My home server upload files on the new server.
Bandwidth is slower, but only those of you who have connexion with more than 100 Mb/s will see a small difference.
All the website is in HTTPS, even next FOTAs releases.

    What will change ?
Builds will be made ON ffos.vosky.fr.
So we will be able to releases more builds per day and it will relieve my home Internet.;)
Eyome suggest to release test builds everyday with nightlies.

We alsoMAY upload builds for another device.
But we are not sure because it would double our work and we are lazy:p and we do not have another device so we would upload without any test...
If you want that we add ONE other device, we need 3 things :
    - The device is not made by another Mozilla contributor, so it is not on this website :https://firefoxos.mozilla.community/devices/
    - The device have a Mozilla manifest, on this website :https://github.com/mozilla-b2g/b2g-manifest
    - You have this device and you are motivated to help us (may need to erase all phone datas during tests).
Big bonus point : You speak french.

If you want to suggest new device that respects theses conditions, please send me a PM, so we do not flood this topic.
French messages will be read first.:p

    Hi,

New daily builds since 2015-06-16 are in "HD" :
    - Boot animation have 1080p resolution (fullscreen for Nexus 5).
    - DPI (GAIA_DEV_PIXELS_PER_PX) is set to 3.375, the optimal value for Nexus 5.
    12
    Hi Vosky,

    2.1s, "s" is forStingray.
It's useless for a device like Nexus 5;)

    Hi,
There are some news since I added 2.2 prerelease.

As@eyoome said, 2.1"s" is for smartTV so it is useless for Nexus 5 : I removed it.

There is no more "weird shortcuts" pointed by@cimbrum.

With@eyoome we added FOTA updates !:D
Your phone will download and flash new builds like CyanogenMod roms.
But it work if Firefox OS is your only rom (no multirom support).
We tested it with clockworkmod, it may fail with other recovery.
Thank todattaz for hishow to andLixxys for his help on IRC.

Now we work (@eyoome and me) on fixing camera issue. :fingers-crossed:
    7
    Yep great news yeah!?!

Seriously guys, push on "Thanks" button for Vosky, because he did a great job! See around, there are no FFOS rom more complete than this one for Nexus5, and I doubt there are a lot better on others phones:) (excepted for ZTE Open C, of course, it was our development model...).
For the others rom makers who want to know how we proceed, please refer to the previous post by Vosky, and on his Home page, all is describe here. Feel free to ask too if you have any questions, I'll do my best to help you. We are working as close as possible to Mozilla community to provide the best rom we can, so enjoy!
So yeah, now, you can choose, with this rom, the FFOS version you want.

To reminder, here are their descriptions:
-Nightly rom: atm 3.0 version. This version is build EVERY days. This is the branch dev version. Possibly hightly instable. Not really recommended to be daily used, but hey, it's not forbidden, above all if you want to report bugs;).
-Aurora rom: atm 2.2 version. This version is build every weeks. This version should be more stable than Nightly, and it includes progressively the news features coming from nightly version, but later...
-Beta rom: atm 2.1 version. This version is build every weeks. This should be the more stable version, close to be commercialy released.

And yes, as Vosky said, stay tuned guys, be sure camera will come soon, it's already fixed in upstream;). It's a matter of time.
