Fort McKay is located along the banks of the Athabasca River roughly 60 kilometres north of Fort McMurray. There are approximately 800 members of Dene, Cree and Métis descent who live in the community of Fort McKay. We share a border with the Fort McKay Métis Community and, together, we call Fort McKay home.
As a First Nation, Fort McKay’s traditional ways of life are changing. There’s no denying this fact. It’s the definition of “change” that is pivotal at this time of rapid growth. At Fort McKay, we want to embrace this change with our people so we can build a stronger community together, while still holding on to our rich history and cultural traditions.
