Rapid and transparent dissemination of research enabling evidence-based action on climate change
Climate change presents one of the most wide-ranging challenges of the twenty-first century, requiring unprecedented global cooperation and with its impacts disproportionately affecting the poorest and most vulnerable. Finding equitable solutions is as important as continued efforts to understand the fundamental principles which underpin climate systems. To support the development of evidence-based approaches and accelerate action on climate, an open and cross-disciplinary approach from stakeholders across academia, industry and policy is required.
This gateway aims to facilitate the transparent sharing of fundamental, applied and interdisciplinary research on important topics ranging from the physical processes which govern climate systems, through to climate modelling, impacts, adaptation and mitigation, as well as research at the interface of climate, society, policy and technology. Through this approach we can better understand the complex nature of climate and global change and accelerate progress towards solutions which are urgently needed.
The Climate Gateway enables the rapid and transparent sharing of research through open access publication, post-publication peer review, and access to underlying data. The scope of the gateway includes, but is not limited to:
- Computation and modelling
- Simulation and prediction
- Atmosphere, biosphere, hydrosphere, and lithosphere interactions
- Physical and biogeochemical processes
- Climate mitigation and adaptation
- Climate impacts, vulnerability, and resilience
- Human activity and climate
- Extreme weather events and natural hazards
- Nature-based solutions and emerging technologies
- Climate and health
- Climate and socioeconomics
- Climate policy, finance and law
- Climate justice and equity
- Risk and impact assessments
- Sustainable development and climate change
- Climate data – collection, collation and analysis
In addition, all approaches to climate research are encouraged, as are studies at all scales.
Important to cross-disciplinary global efforts to prompt action, such as theIPCC climate reports and theUN Sustainable Development Goals, specifically Climate Action, Life Below Water and Life on Land, the Climate Gateway offers rapid and transparent publication alongside access to all underlying data.

Submission and publication process
The range ofarticle types available facilitates the dissemination of work as openly and quickly as possible through Data Notes, Policy Briefs, Methods, and Software Tools, as well as traditional Research and Review articles. Through this approach, the Climate Gateway aims to reduce barriers to collaborative research practices and ensure authors receive credit for the full range of work they are undertaking. Each publication will undergo fully transparent post-publication peer review following the F1000Research publication model. Before submitting, please read our data guidelines and information regarding our article processing charges.
The Climate Gateway welcomes all articles relating to the areas listed above, as well as interdisciplinary research relating to these topics. To submit to the gateway simply click the “Submit to this Gateway” button on this page or select the gateway name from dropdown list in the article submission form.
