    Perhaps fromProto-Italic*terzeznos, from*terzos +‎*-nos, the first of which fromProto-Indo-European*tersos, neuters-stem to the root*ters-(dry).[1]
    Alternatively, from thelocative form*terrai ofterra and-nus.[2]
