  1. (mathematics, inoptimizationprogramming) Involving afinite number ofvariables but aninfinite number ofconstraints, orvice versa.
  2. (ballistics, of atarget) Sufficientlythick that the level ofpenetration of aprojectile is not affected by its thickness.
  3. Limited at one end but extending to infinity in the other direction.

  • semi-infinite is several times more common thansemiinfinite in print.[1] GPO manual recommends using a hyphen to avoid doubling a vowel except after short prefixes.[2]
