First attested in 1548; fromLatinprōcrastinātus,perfectpassiveparticiple ofprōcrastinō(defer, put off till tomorrow) (see-ate(verb-forming suffix)), fromprō-(in favor of) +crāstinus(of or belonging to tomorrow) +(verb-forming suffix), fromcrās(tomorrow).
