Schemas vary by institution; anA is generally the best, and anF is often the worst. (F is often said tostand forfail orflunk.) Passing grades may also carry a plus or minus sign, with an A-minus (A-) better than a B-plus (B+) and so on. Agrade-A orA-grade version of something is anexemplar of its type, whether good or bad (for example, agrade-A student [good] or agrade-A bozo [bad]).
