FromDutchlekker, fromMiddle Dutchlecker, derived from the verblekken(lick). Akin to Germanlecker.

The noun is a backformation from Dutchlekkers, which is a mass noun derived from thepartitive form (as iniets lekkers). In Afrikaans it was reinterpreted as a plural.
