Moreover, the orthography finally adopted was, with two exceptions, that which for very many years had been in use by the Universities' Mission to Central Africa. The exceptions referred to (the elimination of 'double' consonants, e.g.hata nothatta; and the disuse ofkh, e.g.habari notkhabari) were made at the suggestion of the official (i.e. Government) representative in order to avoid unnecessary Arabisms.
