Among the alternative forms,copy editor is the most common,copyeditor about half as much, andcopy-editor a fraction of that.[1] In terms of relative frequency,copyeditor keeps on gaining oncopy editor.[2] Merriam-Webster lists bothcopy editor andcopyeditor, the latter as less common.[3] The situation is different for the verbs, of whichcopyedit is the frequency leader.[4] Amongproofreader variants, the solid form leads by a wide margin.[5]
