Mathematicians usually readxn as "x n", "x subscriptn", or "xsubn" (in fact, I've never personally heard the longer form "x subscriptn" used and consider "x n" to be too confusable but I've read that some do read it in these ways). This, of course, is purely a spoken convention but I think it's appropriate to add here. I believe theHandbook for Spoken Mathematics might be a good reference for this but I'm not exactly sure.
