From personal nameLeaxa +-ing(“belonging to”) +tun(“settlement”). The town in Massachusetts may have been named after the town ofLaxton (formerly spelledLexington) inNottinghamshire, or afterRobert Sutton, 2nd Baron Lexinton (whose title refers to the same place).[1] The other US towns are named after the town in Massachusetts, the site of an important Revolutionary War battle.
