The country's name comes from the name of the mountain range, which in turn comes fromBiblical Hebrewלְבָנוֹן(ləḇānôn), fromProto-West Semitic*laban-(“white”) (compareHebrewלָבָן(lāḇān,“white”),Arabicلَبَن(laban,“milk”)).
