-vá/-vé (translative case suffix)

into(expresses a change in state with the general sense of "becoming X" or "change to X")
só(“salt”) →Lót felesége sóvá változott. ―Lot's wife turnedinto salt.
fia(“his/her son”) →fiává fogad ―to adoptas one's son

(translative case suffix) Variants:
-vá is added to back-vowel words. Final-a changes to-á-.
kutya(“dog”) →A varázsgyűrű kutyává változtatja az embert. ―The enchanted ring transforms peopleinto dogs.
-vé is added to front-vowel words. Final-e changes to-é-.
medve(“bear”) →Héra medvévé változtatta Kallisztót. ―Hera transformed Callistointo a bear.
When it is added to a word ending in aconsonant, thevassimilates with the final consonant, and the final consonant becomeslong:
bolond(“fool”) +‎-vá →Bolonddá tett engem. ―He made a fool out of me. (literally, “made meinto a fool”)
hűvös(“cold”) +‎-vé →Az idő hűvössé vált. ―The weather turned cold. (literally, “turnedinto cold”)
