FromProto-Hellenic*wórwos (whenceMycenaean Greek𐀺𐀺(wo-wo)), perhaps from aProto-Indo-European*werw-(to draw, mark out), with cognates includingLatinurvō(to trace a boundary). See alsoἐρύω(erúō,to draw), which might be related.[1]
