ɧ
- (IPA) one variety of the Swedishsj sound, variously interpreted.
- (superscript⟨𐞗⟩, IPA, rare)[ɧ]-fricatedrelease of a plosive,[ɧ]-coloring, or a weak, fleeting or epenthetic[ɧ].
Some second language learners have difficulties separating[f] from[ɧᶠ].[…] Thus, there is then no need, at this point, to introduce another IPA symbol[f𐞗].
The IPA describes the sound as simultaneous[ʃ] and[x], but according to Peter Ladefoged, former President of the IPA, such a sound would be practically impossible. The actual nature of the sound is debated, and also varies by dialect; the letter⟨ɧ⟩ tends to be used for pan-dialectical transcription regardless of the precise sound being transcribed.
- ʍ (a letter defined specifically for English)
