Zylofuramine[1] is astimulant drug. It was developed in 1961,[2][3] and was intended for use as anappetite suppressant and for the treatment ofsenile dementia in the elderly, but there is little information about it and it does not appear to have ever been marketed.[4]

Itschemical structure has a similarity to otherN-ethyl substituted stimulant drugs such asethylamphetamine andN-ethylhexedrone.

Synthesis

[edit]

TheGrignard reaction of benzylmagnesium bromide (1) and theimine offurfural andethylamine,N-ethylfuran-2-methaneimine (2), gives theamine derivative (3).Hydrogenation using aRaney nickel catalyst yields zylofuramine.[1][2]
