Zuken came into existence as a pioneer in the development ofcomputer-aided design (CAD) systems in Japan to contribute to electronics manufacturing. The literal translation of Zuken isgraphics laboratory. Established in 1976 inYokohama, Japan, it is listed on theTokyo Stock Exchange;[1] net sales were US$216 million for the year 2011.

Zuken's software is used mainly to designprinted circuit boards (PCBs),multi-chip modules, and to engineer electrotechnical, wiring, wiring harness, pneumatics andhydraulics applications.[2] Furthermore, Zuken offers software for electrical and electronic engineeringdata management (electronicproduct lifecycle management (e-PLM)). The company's key markets are theelectronics industry – which includes digital home electrical appliances;mobile communications devices;transportation equipment, such asautomobiles, special vehicles andrailroads; industrial equipment, such as medical equipment and devices; and constructionmachinery. Zuken also has a strong presence in theaviation and space industries. Zuken is one of four majorelectronic design automation (EDA) companies which specialize in PCB design software, the others beingCadence Design Systems,Mentor Graphics, and partlyAltium.[3]
