Theresa Serrano (born January 25, 1994)[2] is an Americanprofessional wrestler. She is signed toWWE, where she performs on theRawbrand under thering nameZoey Stark. She is a formerNXT Women's Tag Team Champion.

Professional wrestling career

Independent circuit (2013–2021)

On June 8, 2013, Serrano made her debut at Vendetta Pro Wrestling, losing to Hudson Envy.[3] On November 16, 2013, she entered under the ring nameLacey Ryan and won her first match against Larry Butabi. During this time, she also won the UCW-Zero Ultra-X Championship. She was able to keep this until January 25, 2014, when she lost it to The Durango Kid. On March 22, she wrestled her last wrestling match for the time being. Ryan celebrated her comeback on August 16, 2018. She wrestled a match againstThunder Rosa, but this ended in a no contest. On May 23, 2019, she wrestled a match against Alex Gracia under the ring name Serrano, which she was able to win. On September 29, she won the FSW Women's Championship, defeatingTaya Valkyrie for the title.[4] Ryan held the title until November 20, 2020, when she lost it to Mazzerati.[5]

NXT (2021–2023)

On January 20 2021, it was reported that Serrano had signed a contract withWWE.[6] On the January 29 edition of205 Live, Serrano, (now renamed Zoey Stark), made her debut asMarina Shafir's tag team partner in the Women'sDusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic tourney, losing toEmber Moon &Shotzi in the 1st round.[7] On the February 17 edition ofNXT, she made herNXT debut, defeatingValentina Feroz.[8] On the February 24 edition ofNXT, she lost toNXT Women's ChampionIo Shirai in a non-title match. After the match, Shirai embraced Stark, establishing Stark as aface. AtNXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver, Stark defeatedToni Storm.[9] AtThe Great American Bash, Stark and Io Shirai defeatedThe Way (Candice LeRae &Indi Hartwell) to win theNXT Women's Tag Team Championship.[10] They lost the titles toToxic Attraction (Gigi Dolin andJacy Jayne), atHalloween Havoc in a triple-threat tag team (Scareway To Hell Ladder Match), also involvingIndi Hartwell andPersia Pirotta.[11] On the November 2 Edition ofNXT, Stark was attacked backstage by Jayne and Dolin. This was used to write her off television as she suffered alegitimate knee injury (a torn ACL, MCL & meniscus) which required surgery.[12][13]

On the July 19 2022 edition ofNXT, Stark returned from injury in the 20-WomanBattle Royal, for the Number 1 contendership, for the NXT Women's Championship in a winning effort.[14] On the November 8 edition ofNXT, Stark &Nikkita Lyons failed to win the NXT Women's Tag Team Championship fromKayden Carter andKatana Chance. After the match, Stark attacked Lyons, turningheel for the 1st time in her WWE career.[15] On January 28, 2023, Stark entered her 1st Royal Rumble match at #13, lasting 26:34, scoring no eliminations, before being eliminated bySonya Deville.

Raw (2023–present)

In the2023 WWE Draft, Stark was drafted to theRawbrand.[16] On the May 8 edition ofRaw, Stark made her main roster debut, defeatingNikki Cross.[17] AtNight of Champions, Stark assistedTrish Stratus to defeatBecky Lynch, aligning with Stratus in the process.[18] On the June 5 edition ofRaw, Stark defeatedNatalya to qualify for the women'sMoney in the Bankladder match.[19] AtMoney in the Bank, Stark teamed up with Stratus throughout the match to prevent Lynch from winning, including a failed attempt to restrain Lynch withhandcuffs. Stratus, Stark and Lynch were defeated when Stark's former tag team partnerIyo Sky, captured the Money in the Bank briefcase.[20] Stark, being accompanied by Stratus, wrestled her first main event match on the main roster, on the August 28 edition ofRaw in afalls count anywhere match vs. Lynch. Stark accidentally struck Stratus through a table, which allowed Lynch to put Stark through another table to win the match.[21] AtPayback, Stark aided Stratus in the latter'ssteel cage match against Lynch in a failing effort. Stark then ended her alliance with Stratus when Stratus slapped and berated her after the match, which prompted Stark to attack Stratus in retaliation.[22][23]

On the September 4 edition ofRaw, Stark lost toShayna Baszler by technical submission, after fainting to Baszler's Kirifuda Clutch. After the match, Baszler gave praise to Stark's toughness.[24] In the next week, Stark ran out to save Baszler, when Baszler was attacked byChelsea Green andPiper Niven, after Baszler's match with Green.[25] On the September 18 edition ofRaw, Stark and Baszler teamed up for the 1st time, to face Green & Niven, however, the match ended in a no contest, afterNia Jax interrupted the match.[26] AtCrown Jewel, Stark failed to win theWomen's World Championship fromRhea Ripley, in afatal-five way match, also involvingRaquel Rodriguez,Nia Jax and Baszler, (who Ripley pinned to retain the title).[27] On the following episode ofRaw, Stark won abattle royal for a Women's World Championship match, against Ripley atSurvivor Series: WarGames, but failed to win the title.[28][29] AtRaw: Day 1, Stark and Baszler defeatedTegan Nox and Natalya, to become the #1 contenders for theWWE Women's Tag Team Championship.[30] Stark competed in theQueen of the Ring tournament, where she lost in the quarterfinals.[31][32]

On the July 8 edition ofRaw, Stark and Baszler aligned themselves with the returningSonya Deville, after weeks of declining the latter's offer, calling themselvesPure Fusion Collective (P.F.C.).[33] Stark entered thetournament to crown the inauguralWomen's Intercontinental Champion, where she lost in the semifinals.[34][35] AtRoyal Rumble, Stark entered the match at #8, where she helped Baszler and Deville eliminateMaxxine Dupri, but she was eliminated byBianca Belair, andNaomi.[36] On February 7, Deville's contract was not renewed by WWE, making P.F.C. a tag team consisting of Stark and Baszler.[37] On the April 11 edition ofSmackdown, P.F.C. took part in a tag team gauntlet match to earn a WWE Women's Tag Team Championship match atWrestleMania 41, but were defeated byBayley & Women's Intercontinental ChampionLyra Valkyria. On May 2, Shayna Baszler was released by WWE, effectively ending P.F.C.[38]

On the May 19 episode ofRaw, Stark took part in a triple threatMoney in the Bank qualification match, facingRhea Ripley andKairi Sane. During the match, as Stark attempted a missile dropkick from the top ropes, she landed awkwardly on her right knee, and appeared to be in serious pain. She was removed from the match immediately,[39] and it was later confirmed that she would be out of action.[citation needed]

Personal life

Serrano was born to a Mexican American father and Puerto Rican mother. Serrano is in a long term relationship with professional wrestler, actor, and wrestling instructor Thomas Merrett Howard, who goes by the ring nameTom Howard.[41]
