Zeynel Abiddin Mosque Complex (Turkish:Zeynel Abidin Camii ve Külliyesi) is a historic religious building complex inNusaybin,Mardin Province, southeasternTurkey.
It is located in the Nusaybin district ofMardin Province at37°04′02″N41°12′51″E / 37.06722°N 41.21417°E /37.06722; 41.21417. Zeynel Abidin and his sister Sitti Zeynep are known as 13th-generation grand children ofMuhammad[1] and he is not to be confused withAli ibn Husayn al-Sajjad / Zayn al-Abidin who is known by the same name. According to an inscription, the complex was built in 1159, during theZengid dynasty. It consists of amosque, built in the place where the church of SantaFebronia of Nisibis, Christian martyr,[2] amedrese (school) and tombs of both Zeynel Abidin and his sister Sitti Zeynep.
The building material of the L-plan mosque complex is rough stone. Themimbar,mihrab and theminaret are later additions. The tombs of Zeynel Abidin and Siti Zeynep are located at the south east of the mosque.[3]
This site, together with the nearbyMor Yakup Church, was added to theUNESCOWorld Heritage Tentative List on April 15, 2014, in the Cultural category.[3]
