Mehmet Zeki Çelik (Turkish pronunciation:[ˈzeciˈtʃelik]; born 17 February 1997) is aTurkish professionalfootballer who plays forSerie A clubRoma and theTurkey national team. Mainly aright-back, he can also be deployed as acentre-back in aback three.
Born inBursa as the youngest of nine children, Çelik went through theBursaspor youth academy and became a professional in 2015. He signed on loan withKaracabey Birlikspor in 2015.
In 2016, he joinedİstanbulspor. His good performance with İstanbulspor earned him a call-up to the seniorTurkey national team in 2018, despite playing in theTFF First League.[2]
On 8 July 2018, Çelik signed withLille in France on a five-year contract.[3][4] Çelik made his professional debut in a 3–1Ligue 1 win overStade Rennes on 11 August 2018.[5]
On 5 July 2022, Çelik’s transfer to Roma from Lille was made official by theSerie A club,Roma.[6] He has signed a four-year contract with the Giallorossi that runs until 30 June 2026.[7] He made hisSerie A debut in a 1–0 win overCremonese on 22 August 2022.
Çelik made his professional debut for theTurkey national team in a 1–1 friendly withRussia on 5 June 2018.[8]
