Zanqufa (Arabic:زنقوفة, also spelledZanqoufeh) is a village in northwesternSyria, administratively part of theal-Haffah District, located northeast ofLatakia. It is situated along the southern edge of city ofal-Haffah. According to theSyria Central Bureau of Statistics, Zanqufa had a population of 928 in the 2004 census.[1] Its inhabitants areSunni Muslims.[2]
During the 1919-20 revolt againstFrench rule in Syria, Zanqufa was used as a base of guerrilla operations and training by rebel leaderIzz ad-Din al-Qassam.[3]
