Zadkiel (Hebrew:צִדְקִיאֵלṢīḏqīʾēl, 'God is my Righteousness'), also known asHasdiel,[a] is anarchangel inJewish andChristianangelology.

As an angel of mercy, some texts claim that Zadkiel is the unnamed biblicalAngel of the Lord who holds backAbraham to prevent the patriarch from sacrificing his son,Isaac. Because of this, he is usually shown holding a dagger. Other texts citeMichael orTadhiel or some other angel as the angel intended, while others interpret the Angel of the Lord as atheophany.[3]

Associated symbolism

InJewish mysticism andChristian Kabbalah, Zadkiel is associated with theclassical planetJupiter.[4] The angel's position in thesephirot is fourth, which corresponds toChesed "Kindness".[5][6]
