Yvonne Hudson (born July 9, 1955) is an Americantelevision actress and comedian who is best known for being the first African-Americanfemalecast member onSaturday Night Live.[1][2] She joined the cast as a featured player in theshow's 1980–1981 season (the first black female repertory player wasDanitra Vance). She is also the thirdAfrican-American to become anSNL cast member followingGarrett Morris andEddie Murphy, who started one week ahead of her. Hudson first appeared on the show in 1978 as an uncreditedextra in many episodes.
Hudson was the front desk receptionist for the show, prior to being made a featured player.[3] She rarely had a role of significance in any sketches and was fired along with most of the cast at the end of the troubled season.[4]
Some of the names here will be familiar only to die-hard fans; others, like Murphy, defined what was funny for generations of viewers.
