TheYoung Mao Zedong statue[1][2] orstatue of Young Mao Zedong[3][4] is located onOrange Isle inChangsha,Hunan. The monument stands 32 metres (105 ft) tall and depictsMao Zedong's head. TheHunan People's Government began building it in 2007 and it was completed two years later, in 2009. It took more than 800 tons ofgranite mined fromFujian to complete.[5][6][7]

It is 83 metres (272 ft) long, symbolising Mao's age at his death, 41 metres (135 ft) wide, symbolising the number of years he led theChinese Communist Party from theZunyi Conference to his death, and 32 metres (105 ft) high, representing Mao's age when he wrote his poem dedicated to Changsha city.
