Yoshio Kushida (串田 嘉男,Kushida Yoshio; born September 19, 1957 inHachioji, Tokyo) is a Japaneseseismologist, amateurastronomer and adiscoverer of minor planets andcomets.[2]

Kushida is the founder of theYatsugatake South Base Observatory.[2] He is credited by theMinor Planet Center with the discovery of 56 numberedminor planets during 1988–1994, most of them in collaboration with astronomerOsamu Muramatsu, as well as withMasaru Inoue and with his wifeReiki Kushida.[1] He also discovered and co-discoverer the twoperiodic comets144P/Kushida and147P/Kushida-Muramatsu, respectively.

The main-belt asteroid5605 Kushida, discovered bySatoru Otomo at Kiyosato in 1993, was named in his honor.[2] Naming citation was published on 28 July 1999 (M.P.C. 35483).[3]
