Yosef Yitzchak "Yossi" Jacobson (Hebrew:יוסף יצחק יעקבסון or ג'ייקובסון) (born June 11, 1972), also known asYY Jacobson, is an AmericanChabadrabbi and speaker fromMonsey, New York.

Jacobson served as editor-in-chief of theAlgemeiner Journal, and as achoizer (transcriber) for Lubavitcher RebbeMenachem Mendel Schneerson.

Yosef Yitzchak Jacobson was born toGershon Jacobson, a journalist, inCrown Heights, Brooklyn. His family wasChabadHasidic. He began his studies inOholei Torah, later moving on toTomchei Temimim,[citation needed] ayeshiva located in Chabad's World Headquarters ("770").

In 1990, at the age of 17, Jacobson was recruited by his older brotherSimon to join the team that prepared the public addresses ofMenachem Mendel Schneerson for publication.[1]Orthodox Jews being prohibited fromusing recording devices on Shabbat andJewish Holidays, they were charged with memorizing these 5 hour long talks and later transcribing them, in a role known aschoizer ormeiniach.[2]

As a senior fellow, Jacobson taughtTalmud,Kabbalah, andHasidic philosophy at Chabad Lubavitch Rabbinical Seminary Chovevei Torah.[3]He receivedsemikhah (rabbinic ordination) from Zalman Labkowsky in 2011.[4]

In 2005, Jacobson followed in the footsteps of his father, becoming editor-in-chief of the Yiddish weeklyAlgemeiner Journal, which he contributed to for a number of years.[3] He was amashpia (spiritual mentor) at theChovevei Torah Yeshiva in Crown Heights, and a teacher at the Ohr Chaim Learning Center inMonsey, New York.[citation needed]

Personal life

Jacobson lives with his family in Monsey. His siblings are authorSimon Jacobson, Boruch Sholom Jacobson—a Chabadshliach atHunter College, Freida Hecht ofNorwalk, Connecticut, and Chana Krasnianski ofManhattan.
