Yonna is anunincorporated community inKlamath County,Oregon, United States. It lies east ofOregon Route 140 in Yonna Valley, northeast ofDairy and near the base of Short Lake Mountain.[2]
At one time known asAlkali Valley, the area is now known by itsKlamath name,Yonna Valley. According toOregon Geographic Names, the name may come fromyana, meaning "below" as in the valley, or it may derived fromyaina, meaning "mountain" There's also a local tradition thatyonna in some tribal language meansalkali, and so the change was made to avoid discouraging people who might otherwise want to settle there.
A post office was established in Yonna Valley in 1906. It closed in 1913.[3]
