Yasen Petrov Petrov (Bulgarian:Ясен Петров Петров; born 23 June 1968) is aBulgarian former football player. His nickname isGiannini fromPlovdiv.
Born inPlovdiv,Bulgaria, Petrov played for thePFC Botev Plovdiv,PFC Levski Sofia,PFC Slavia Sofia andPFC Lokomotiv Sofia. He also played for theBulgaria national team.[1]
He has managedPFC Lokomotiv Sofia,PFC Botev Plovdiv, andPFC Cherno More Varna. His most famous achievement as a coach is his debut forLokomotiv Plovdiv, beating his old team and eternal city rivalsBotev Plovdiv 4–0.
On 20 May 2010, Yasen Petrov was presented as a new head coach ofLevski Sofia.[2] He started great after a win inthe Eternal Derby. Then after series of good matches, Levski qualified forUEFA Europa League after eliminatingDundalk F.C.,Kalmar FF andAIK Fotboll. Levski was drawn inGroup C, facingGent,Lille andSporting CP. At the end of the season, Levski Sofia finished 2nd and Petrov was released from the club.
Petrov has also worked as manager of teams inChina.
In January 2021, Petrov was appointed as manager ofBulgaria.[3] His first match in charge of the team was a March 2021 World Cup qualifier againstSwitzerland, which Bulgaria lost by a score of 1:3.[4] On 5 June 2022, Petrov resigned after a 2:5 loss againstGeorgia in a Nations League match.[5]
