Yarleen Santiago Pagán [ 1] (born January 18, 1978, inArecibo, Puerto Rico ) is a femalebeach volleyball player who won the gold medal at theNORCECA Circuit 2009 atMontelimar, Nicaragua playing withDariam Acevedo .[ 2] [ 3]
At home, Santiago was runner-up of the beach professional circuitCircuito de Voleibol Playero Profesional , playing with Sheila Conley.[ 4] In 2009, playing with Dariam Acevedo, she won the championship.[ 5]
Santiago studied and played at theUniversity of Arkansas as an outside hitter. There, between 1997 and 1999, she earned AVCA All District/All region, All Southeastern Conference (SEC) Team[ 6] and SEC All-Tournament Team honors every year.[ 7] She also led her team in digs every season between 1997 and 1999.[ 8] She earned theFreshman of the Year Award in 1997.[ 9]
Santiago retired from thePuerto Rican national volleyball team in 2007 after having represented her home country in many events.[ 10] [ 11] At the2006 Women's Pan-American Volleyball Cup , she won theBest Defense Award .[ 12]
Santiago also played professionally in 2009 withGigantes de Carolina fromLiga de Voleibol Superior Femenino .[ 13] [ 14]
