TheWriters Guild of America Award for Best Adapted Screenplay is one of the threescreenwritingWriters Guild of America Awards, focused specifically for film. TheWriters Guild of America began making the distinction between an original screenplay and anadapted screenplay in1970, whenWaldo Salt, screenwriter forMidnight Cowboy, won for "Best Adapted Drama" andArnold Schulman won "Best Adapted Comedy" for his screenplay ofGoodbye, Columbus.[1] Separate awards for dramas and comedies continueduntil 1985.[1]
