Wouter Maarten Goes (born 10 June 2004) is a Dutch professional footballer who plays as acentre-back forEredivisie clubAZ Alkmaar. He is a Dutch youth international.[2]

Club career

He progressed through the ranks of theAZ Alkmaar academy, where he developed to become a leader of the youth teams.[3] Goes signed his first professional contract with the club in November 2020 and was established as the captain of the AZ under-17 side at that point.[4]

During the2021–22 season, Goes was a central element of the under-19 team that played theYouth League, qualifying to thefinal 16 through theChampions Path, after eliminating the likes ofAngers[5] andVillarreal.[6] He made his professional debut forJong AZ on the 4 February 2022, starting in the 2–1 awayEerste Divisie loss toAjax reserve team.[7]

Goes subsequently made hisEredivisie debut for the senior squad ofAZ Alkmaar on 4 February 2023 againstVolendam, as a starter.[8] On 25 February, he scored his first Eredivisie goal in a 2–1 victory overCambuur.[9] He played in the final of theKNVB Cup as AZ lost toGo Ahead Eagles on penalties on 21 April 2025. The game had ended 1-1 in normal time after Go Ahead Eagles scored a 98th minute equaliser.[10]

International career

ANetherlands youth international, Goes is a regular with the several Dutch youth selections since January 2019.[3][4] In March 2024, he featured for theNetherlands national under-21 football team in a 3-0 win againstMoldova U21 in a qualifying match for the U21 European Championship.[11] The following season he also featured for the Dutch U21 side in a 2-1 away win againstItaly U21.[12]
