World's Edge is an Americanvideo game developer and a studio ofXbox Game Studios based inRedmond, Washington. It was established in June 2019 in order to oversee theAge of Empires franchise. The studio works with external studios such asForgotten Empires,Tantalus Media andRelic Entertainment to bring back the franchise.

History

AtE3 2019 Xbox announced that they were establishing a new internal studio which was later named World's Edge. The studio was established in 2019 by Shannon Loftis, the former head of publishing atXbox Game Studios Publishing, to work on theAge of Empires franchise.[2][3]

The studio's first title wasAge of Empires II: Definitive Edition, for which they partnered with Forgotten Empires, Tantalus Media andWicked Witch Software. The studio oversaw the project and kept it on the desired track.

Shannon Loftis, the founder and head of the studio, retired in 2022, and Michael Mann, the executive producer ofAge of Empires IV, took her place.[4]

On the 25th anniversary ofAge of Empires, World's Edge announced Xbox console ports ofAge of Empires II: Definitive Edition andAge of Empires IV along with a remaster ofAge of Mythology and the global version ofAge of Empires Mobile.[5][6][7]
