Wolfgang Stefinger (born 20 April 1985) is a German politician of theChristian Social Union (CSU) who has been serving as a member of theBundestag from the state ofBavaria since 2013.
Stefinger first became a member of the Bundestag in the2013 German federal election.[1] He is a member of the Committee on Education, Research and Technology Assessment and the Committee on Economic Cooperation and Development.[2][3] In this capacity, he is his parliamentary group'srapporteur for relations withIndia.
In addition to his committee assignments, Stefinger serves as deputy chairman of the German Parliamentary Friendship Group for Relations with the Southern African States.
In the negotiations to form afourth coalition government underChancellorAngela Merkel following the2017 federal elections, Stefinger was part of the working group on education policy, led byAnnegret Kramp-Karrenbauer,Stefan Müller andHubertus Heil. In the negotiations to form aGrand Coalition under the leadership ofFriedrich Merz's Christian Democrats (CDU together with the Bavarian CSU) and theSocial Democratic Party (SPD) following the2025 German elections, he was part of the CDU/CSU delegation in the working group on foreign affairs, defense, development cooperation and human rights, led byJohann Wadephul,Florian Hahn andSvenja Schulze.[4]
In June 2017, Stefinger voted against his parliamentary group’s majority and in favor of Germany’s introduction ofsame-sex marriage.[10]
Amid theCOVID-19 pandemic in Germany in 2020, Stefinger was one of three members of his parliamentary group – alongsideRonja Kemmer andChristoph Ploß – who became the subject of media scrutiny after they had accepted an invitation to embark on a three-day short trip toOman; Oman's embassy covered their travel expenses of 5,466 euros each.[11]
Stefinger has been in a relationship with fellow politicianSepp Müller since 2022.[12]
