William Douglas Burr Knox (born 14 January 1986) is a British singer and songwriter based inHaarlem, Netherlands. Besides his own repertoire, he is known for his work with, among others,Duncan Laurence andDotan.
Knox was born and raised inHammersmith,West London.[1] At the age of 18, he moved toBoston to study at theBerklee College of Music.[1][2] After graduating, he initially worked as a singer and songwriter inNew York City, but later returned to England.[2]
In the early 2010s, Knox participated in songwriting sessions in the Netherlands with Dutch singerDotan, contributing to thehit records "Hungry" and "Let the River In" (2014).[2] He subsequently worked with many other Dutch artists and bands, includingAnouk,Ilse DeLange,Jennie Lena,Miss Montreal,Sabrina Starke andWithin Temptation, and was signed to the Dutchmusic publisher Pennies from Heaven.[2][3] In 2017, he moved toHaarlem, Netherlands.[1][2]
Knox contributed to the lyrics of the 2019 single "Arcade" byDuncan Laurence, whom he had met through Ilse DeLange.[4] Prior to its public release, the song was internally selected by the Dutch broadcasterAVROTROS torepresent the Netherlands in theEurovision Song Contest 2019.[5] "Arcade" went on to win the competition, giving the Netherlands its first Eurovision win since 1975, and became one of the most successfulEurovision Song Contest winning entries on streaming platforms and international charts.[6]
