One might well think that, Doug. It would set a rather strange precedent otherwise (if Wikipedia worked by precedent, which it only does some of the time...), though it'd give me a chance to addHuey toList of Roman deities. Seriously though, I'd have to suggest that we'd at minimum need a source stating that something was pancake-like to include it on such a list. And then make it clear that the list included such items. There may be a bit of a problem though, in that we are dealing with food, worldwide, with all the linguistic complications that entails. Do we need something that getstranslated into 'pancake'? That might be a little arbitrary, and imposing English-language constraints on things that Wikipedia probably shouldn't. A bit of a quandary...AndyTheGrump (talk)17:32, 7 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Roman gods were (are? who am I to imply they aren't still about..) a fickle lot, prone to make a lot of noise, and even more prone to sorely disappoint any mere mortals who think they can control them. Same goes for helicopters. As for Huey herself (have I just assumed gender?) she is one of the melodic of the whirlygods, known by her war-cry of 'wokka wokka wokka', if you have angered her, this may variously be followed by rapid 'brrts' or 'whooshes' as she reaps destruction. Or she may instead a dump a bunch of also angry, and well armed, mortals on you. Or if she is a more benevolent mood, she may instead pick up said angry mortals once they have vented their anger, or ran out of ammunition, or she may perhaps rescue other mortals, possibly injured. Or do many and diverse things, as befits a fickle god. As for her appearance, even those mortals who claim to have seen her are divided as to whether being a helicopter makes one inherently ugly (and accordingly assists in staying airborne, since the very Earth is repelled), or whether, by being a god, she transcends such limitations. I'm inclined to the latter opinion.
Yeah, I knowWP:NOTFORUM, but hopefully proof by absurdity (is that a thing?) is sufficient here to indicate that one cannot indiscriminately include 'not-doodads' in a list of 'doodads' - and most certainly not without some sort of well-sourced justification for doing so. Mere opinion (or opinion pretended to, for rhetorical effect) certainly doesn't suffice. If this leaves one uncertain as what should actually be in a list, it may well indicate that there is something problematic in the list itself - in this case, that 'pancake' appears to be a social construct, rather than an objectively-definable class. One can objectively make things that have beendescribed as 'pancakes' but nothing in the label affects their physical properties, even if saythinking about the term 'pancake'might itself have physical results (i.e. on one's salivary system), if one is culturally/linguistically conditioned that way).List of pancakes might well have merited inclusion inList of unsolved problems in philosophy, but sadly that has been (miss?)redirected to the far less interesting-soundingList of philosophical problems. So, a quandary, with or without the intervention of the gods...AndyTheGrump (talk)18:28, 10 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
