Inthis 2022 discussion about templating regulars,Iridescent said,
That used to be the case, but there is a solution now. I was always frustrated by this as well, and decided to look into it some time back to see what could be done about this problem. It turns out, there was always a way, but it was indeed very non-obvious. I set out to work around this by hiding the obscurity inthis template, and then transcludinga wrapper in thepotted documentation used in all of theuser warning templates. As a result, you will now find a line like this in the Usage section of the{{uw-medrs}} doc:
Clicking that link gives the number and list of users who have received the{{uw-medrs}} template, and from that, further analysis about usage, trends, or effectiveness of the template could be performed. This is now part of the documentation for all user warning templates, thus solving the original problem raised by Iridescent. Now, if we could only get people toread the doc, but that is a problem of a different order...

Can someone add the newly created uw-aitalk series of templates here? It seems to follow the standard rules of what should be in a uw, but exclusion from this list (as well as AV, etc.) makes it difficult to find.Somepinkdude (talk)14:01, 31 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Now that the community has rejected the deletion of this template ({{uw-archive}}) we must deal with it. First off, the wording has been changed to no longer claim the false assertion that 75 kB is a specified limit. I've updated the quoted bits of the linked guideline to reflect this, and I have essentially reworded this to much more gentlyask the talk owner to voluntarily consider archiving.
Note that a friendly courtesy "ask to archive" template already exists:{{Please archive}}CapnZapp (talk)15:51, 1 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It's occurred to me that some templates in the series may needIP
to be replaced withTA
in the near future. And{{uw-multipleIPs}} will probably need to be moved to{{uw-multipleTAs}} or similar.{{Shared IP advice}} can probably just be deprecated, unless someone thinks it needs to be sent to TFD instead. Anyway, may be worth prepping some maintanence.184.152.65.118 (talk)18:02, 2 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

It seems like the templates are breaking once temporary accounts have been introduced. Now, the uws are all linking towards the personal sandbox, regardless if it's a temp account or not. Is there some way so that it will still link toWP:Sandbox for temporary accounts, because it's clearly not happening?HwyNerdMike(t |c)07:40, 6 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Wouldthis be considered a single-level or a multi-level template? There's currently only one template in this series, but it's structured like all the other uw1 templates.137a (talk •edits)17:03, 8 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Recent improvements to template{{find substed}} have enabled the easy[-ier] discovery of the number of particular warning templates in use on User talk pages, and how those numbers have varied year over year. As a proof of concept, please seeWikipedia:Template index/User talk namespace/warnings by year. These data could be expanded in several ways (more templates, more years) and/or used to plot time-series graphs, to give a view of how usage of warning templates varies over time. This, in turn, may be useful in providing data to analyze any number of issues, and should be helpful forWP:Editor retention. Note: numbers in the table are static, and figures in the first two columns will go stale over time, but other columns should remain stable. Links are dynamic, and should provide the correct statistic for each cell. Expansions are possible, such as, 'this month', 'this quarter', and so on.Mathglot (talk)11:06, 26 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
