Per the RfC and the previous one, there does appear to be a consensus to support this proposed guideline. As a result the following will take effect:
- All Bangladesh related articles should follow theWP:BDPLACE guideline.
- If there is any item that is not covered in this guideline, editors should default back to theWP:PLACE guideline.
- Editors should remember that this is a guideline, and not a policy.

There is ageneric conventions for geographic names. But that is not clear enough forplaces inBangladesh. This arose to inconsistency in names and sometimes lead to various issues. That is why aWP:BDPLACE in conjunction toWP:PLACE was proposed in December of 2014 and I think it is time to adopt it. –nafSadhdidsay18:52, 18 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

- This is unclear: "When multiple spellings exist, choose the page name according to Bangladesh government portal (mostly in Bengali only), next to Banglapedia (www.banglapedia.org)." Since we are dealing with English spelling, how is the Bengali spelling to be interpreted? What transliteration system should be used? There are many different styles for transliterating Bangla into English.Sminthopsis84 (talk)09:51, 19 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
- The parenthetic is unclear, Bangladesh govt. portal does not have English name for all places. In such cases Banglapedia is to be referred. I guess, this line needs to be better phrased. Help us out.nafSadhdidsay15:04, 19 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
- I will still work on a pilot first. Can someone lead the pilot?Aditya(talk •contribs)04:31, 20 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
- We need more than just two volunteers for the pilot. Lets see if@Arr4: and@Kmzayeem: are at least interested.@বব২৬: is in a long Wiki-break. I wish he was back.nafSadhdidsay05:35, 20 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
- @Nafsadh: What I have to do? -Arr4 (talk)09:14, 20 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
- Aditya was saying, we should run a pilot on BDPLACE; may be chose Rajshahi , then check and refactor names of places in Rajshahi according to BDPLACE. It will (1) check for any flaw in the proposal (2) let us practice this convention. We can form a project:Wikipedia:WikiProject Bangladesh/Geography Workgroup and keep alog on how it is coming up. May be we can maintain a sortable table (or just a list) to put old name and new names of articles in a page within that project.nafSadhdidsay13:41, 20 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
- We have a geography workgroup. –nafSadhdidsay20:01, 20 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
- CreatedWP:BDPLACE/Log. --nafSadhdidsay20:12, 20 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
- Count me in! --05:30, 21 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
- Also me. -Arr4 (talk)14:36, 21 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
- Thanks guys. You can start checking names within Rajshahi (first the city, then the district and next few from the division). I would appreciate if@Sminthopsis84: can join the pilot, as he is interested in Bangladesh and not from Bangladesh; we can have a more global perspective from him. –nafSadhdidsay15:19, 21 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
- Comment I think that the guideline should clearly state the differences in policy here versus the policy atWP:PLACE, or otherwise say that there are no differences. As I read this, I see no obvious differences, and think this is just a localized guide giving the same information. If I knew what differences were here, if any, then I could more easily comment. - Will addition of this paragraph work?nafSadhdidsay16:05, 28 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
This guideline is derived fromWP:PLACE to explains some localized nuances. It does not supplement aforementioned guideline. An important notion is, WP:BDPLACE distinguishes administratively definedterritories from more naturallocalities.
- Nafsadh Something like that would work. This does seem to supplement WP:PLACE when talking about Bangladeshi places, so that part is a little confusing, and also this guideline does more than what this box says because it also covers Bangla to English transliteration. What about just saying "This guideline is derived fromWP:PLACE to explain some localized nuances in Bangladesh and Bangla language." Is that correct? If so, then I support. Blue Rasberry(talk)17:59, 28 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
- Sounds right. ThanksBluerasberry. Can you update the guideline to add this?nafSadhdidsay18:08, 28 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
- Started working on the pilot. Check the log. Can someone just fill in the old name column? Then others can work on the names and fill other columns with updates.Aditya(talk •contribs)10:07, 3 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It is unclear to me why this RFC was not announced at the talk page of the more general guideline, i.e. atWikipedia talk:Naming conventions (geographic names). The present draft guideline says that it is "derived from" the more general one, and therefore editors at the more general one might want to check whether it is derivedcorrectly.Anythingyouwant (talk)02:22, 19 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
- The talk originally took place atWikipedia_talk:Naming_conventions_(geographic_names)#Proposal_for_WP:NCGN#Bangladesh and a decision was made to fork its own page. A RfC was posted on relevant places and was active until18th May 2018.nafSadhdidsay13:49, 31 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
