WikiProject Skepticism is aWikiProject dedicated to creating, improving, and monitoring articles related toskepticism (British English spelling:scepticism), also known asscientific skepticism, rational skepticism, orskeptical inquiry. The focus includes articles about claims which are contrary to straightforward facts, the current body of scientific evidence, or which involve the paranormal and other claims of supernatural or "powerful elite" agency. The project ensures that these articles are written from aneutral point of view, follows ourguidelines for writing about fringe theories, and do not put forward invalid claims as truth.
ThisWikiProject aims primarily to coordinate the efforts of Wikipedians who wish to ensure that thebest sources that describe these ideas are used in an effort to improve the general quality and range of Wikipedia articles on various topics, while maintaining a neutral point of view and avoiding theunduepromotion of obscure ideas for which there is little to no scholarship or serious attention paid.
The goals of this WikiProject are as follows:
To create new articles relating to subjects relevant to skepticism.
To improve articles that are not based in the best evidence or sources.
Review thenew pages log, adding the{{WikiProject Skepticism}} tag on the talk pages of relevant articles and as necessary, nominating inappropriate articles for deletion; when the articles meet inclusion criteria, help to improve them and watchlist them
ReadWP:FTN andWT:SKEPTIC and participate there; start a new thread there as necessary when needing input about problematic articles
Trackarticle alerts and participate to relevant discussions
Patrol changes to sensitive articles by watchlisting them or using theRelated Changes feature on extra watchlists or categories (also see theskeptic's watchlist)
Participate to article talk page discussions, while thinking aboutWP:NOTFORUM
