This WikiProject seeks to do the following:
This project includes in its scopeall things relating to The Religious Society of Friends (Quakers). These articles should be placed in theCategory:Quakerism or one of its subcategories.
An initial listing of articles included in other reference works regarding Quakers can be foundWikipedia:WikiProject Religious Society of Friends (Quakers)/Missing articles. We should definitely work to ensure that material related to Quakerism which is to be found in other reference works is also discussed somewhere here.
Create or complete articles for topics featured in theQuaker Tapestry. There is a list of the panels in the tapestry's article already, we should break out a list of what's needed and post that here.

We need to keep the list of articles below in sync with the articles in the categories we watch (please note not all articles below should be in theQuakerism category).
The following articles have all been selected for inclusion in one or more release versions of Wikipedia. Please help ensure that these articles remain of the highest possible quality.
Items on theList of Quakers and in theCategory:Quakers need to be cross-checked to include all relevant people in both places. Any articles on the list page that are not in the category need to have [[Category:Quakers]] added to the end. We also need to cross check those pages with the list of people in the article section below.

Quaker star onWikimedia Commons.It would be great to have the classic Quaker texts onWikisource, and even greater to have more than just the classics. Also, the familiar quotes could be put onWikiquote.
Articles for this project are broken into several groups. Articles on those pages are currently organized with the schema foundhere. The bot-generated list of articles and their rates can be foundhere, statistics on articles being tracked by the bot can be found in the table to the right.

This WikiProject should follow existing Quaker practices when possible. In particular, rather than voting on proposed actions that require a group decision, participants should comment as they are led, this is fortunately very compatible with Wikipedia's decision making process.
Currently there are no proposed group actions and no clerk but the need has not yet arisen.
According to theOxford English Dictionary, either form is used. Two es if you think it comes from "creed", one if you think it comes from the Latin credo. The more "current" form is with one e (the most recent use of "creedal" the OED lists is from the 1870s, while the other form is how the Economist spelt it in 1957).
We'll use the spelling "credal" and "non-credal" ("noncredal" looks funny[citation needed]) when it comes up.

I am a member of Northwest Yearly Meeting, living in Newberg, Oregon. I have been involved deeply with Friends for the last thirty years or so. My wife (Kathleen) and I have both served on exec committee for Friends Association for Higher Education (FAHE) so have developed several good friendships with Quakers from all over the place, including, in no particular order Baltimore, Philadelphia, Wilmington, Kansas, Ohio, Guildford, California (especially Whittier), Bolivia, Peru, Kenya, Rwanda, England, Iowa, and of course, Oregon/Washington/Idaho (both NWYM and PYM). Encountered Friends when I attended George Fox University in Newberg, Oregon and began a process of becoming convinced. I am not a joiner by nature, but the fit was so exact I finally could not resist. Earned PhD in Org Com, with foci in Semiotics/Anth linguistics/Philosophy and Communication (so I tend to focus on organizations, structures and the "why" things are like they are). I am an evangelical, but am wondering if the term is particularly useful any more, given how it has been drug around by the political right. I am frequently amazed at how misunderstood various groups of Quakers seem to be, especially by one another. Supporter of FCNL, AFSC, RSWR, etc. |
