| Deletion Sorting Project |
|---|
Welcome toWikiProject Deletion sorting. SomeWikipedians have formed aproject to create a workable system forDeletion sorting, which has evolved into a complementary way of organizing deletion discussions (e.g. they are organized into topical lists in addition to their normal organization by date alone).
To help this project, please add new AFD discussions to one of thecurrent list of deletion categories. For more information on WikiProjects, please seeWikipedia:WikiProjects andWikipedia:WikiProject best practices.
It must be noted that WikiProject Deletion sorting pages may not be used in violation of theadvertising and soliciting meatpuppetspolicy which states:
Do not recruit meatpuppets. It is consideredhighly inappropriate to advertise Wikipedia articles to your friends, family members, or communities of people who agree with you for the purpose of coming to Wikipedia and supporting your side of a debate. If you feel that a debate is ignoring your voice, then the appropriate action is toremain civil, seek comments and involvement from other Wikipedians, or pursuedispute resolution. These are well-tested processes, designed to avoid the problem of exchanging bias in one direction for bias in another.
This project involvestranscluding AFD discussions in category specific pages, that makes it easier for people find a topic they have knowledge and interest in. In the past, and still in most cases presently, these discussions are organized solely by date. At one time this level of structure was adequate, because there were sufficiently few deletions that a person could review most of them on a daily basis while still contributing as a Wikipedian. However,Articles for deletion has grown far beyond human scale, with a throughput now approaching 1,000 pages per week and rising quickly. This has the effect of separating deletion debates from the healthy process of encyclopedia-building. It is hoped that a workable system for categorized deletion, which will bring deletion debates to the attention of editors active in relevant topical areas, will alleviate these problems.
This project was strongly inspired byWikiProject Stub sorting, and also bythe historical discussion on deletion reform.
This project is similar to others concerned with improving Wikipedia's internal practices, such as those listed atWikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory/Wikipedia. In particular, since it is concerned with categorization, it is similar toWikipedia:WikiProject Categories as well asWikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting. SeeArticle Alerts for automated per-project reports that include deletions among other processes.
{{Deletionlist}} explains the manual process of adding an AfD to a deletion list{{subst:delsort}}{{subst:delsort|topic}} to the AfD and opens the list in a popup window{{subst:delsort|<topic>|<signature>}} – used for tagging active AfD discussions.{{deletionlist|<topic>}} – the standard header for deletion lists. It should generally be enclosed in "<noinclude>" tags.{{deletionlist-country|<country>}} – also used for countries{{deletionlist-USstate|<state>}} – used forU.S. states.{{Topic|<topic>}} – can be used to identify and link to other central pages related to a given topic. To join the project, add your user namehere.
