The position ofMarshal Foch Professor of French Literature at theUniversity of Oxford was founded in 1918 shortly after the end of the First World War.Ferdinand Foch, or "Marshal Foch"(pictured), was supreme commander of Allied forces from April 1918 onwards. The chair was endowed by an arms trader,Basil Zaharoff, in Foch's honour; he also endowed a post in English Literature at theUniversity of Paris in honour of the British Field MarshalEarl Haig. Zaharoff wanted the University of Paris to have a right of veto over the appointment, but Oxford would not accept this. The compromise reached was that Paris should have a representative on the appointing committee (although this provision was later removed). In advance of the first election,Stéphen Pichon (the French Foreign Minister) unsuccessfully attempted to influence the decision. The first professor,Gustave Rudler, was appointed in 1920. TheBAFTA Fellowship is a lifetime achievement award presented by theBritish Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) in recognition of "outstanding achievement in the art forms of the moving image". The award is the highest honour the Academy can bestow, and has been awarded annually since 1971. Recipients of the fellowship have mainly beenfilm directors, but some have been awarded toactors,film andtelevision producers,cinematographers,film editors,screenwriters, and contributors to thevideo game industry. People from the United Kingdom dominate the list, but it includes more than a dozen U.S. citizens and several recipients from other countries in Europe. In 2010,Shigeru Miyamoto became the first citizen of an Asian country to receive the award. The inaugural recipient of the award was the filmmaker and producerAlfred Hitchcock(pictured). The award has been made posthumously to the comedy pairMorecambe and Wise in 1999, and toStanley Kubrick, who died in 1999 and was made a fellow in 2000. (Full list...)

The1991 Atlantic hurricane season was a below-averageAtlantic hurricane season that produced twelvetropical cyclones, of which eight strengthened to becomenamed tropical storms; four of these became hurricanes, of which two further intensified into major hurricanes (Category 3 or higher on theSaffir–Simpson scale). The most destructive storm of theseason wasHurricane Bob(pictured), which brushed theOuter Banks ofNorth Carolina near peak intensity on August 19, then madelandfall twice inRhode Island later that day. Bob killed at least seventeen people along its path and caused extensive damage inNew England, totaling $1.5 billion (1991 USD). The season's other significant storm was a powerfulnor'easter known asthe Perfect Storm. It caused severe coastal damage in the northeastern United States, with impacts noted as far south asPuerto Rico. Damages exceeded $200 million (1991 USD) and thirteen people were killed. Uganda has three World Heritage Sites and a further eight sites on its tentative list. TheUnited Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)World Heritage Sites are places of importance tocultural ornatural heritage as described in the UNESCOWorld Heritage Convention, established in 1972. The first two Ugandan sites were listed in 1994,Rwenzori Mountains National Park and theBwindi Impenetrable National Park, both for their natural significance. TheTombs of Buganda Kings at Kasubi(pictured), a cultural site, was listed in 2001. Both Rwenzori Mountains National Park and the Kashubi Tombs were at some point listed asendangered, the former because of security issues and lack of monitoring by the park staff and the latter because of the damage in a fire that destroyed the tombs in 2010. Twenty men and nine women have been named Player of the Year by theAll India Football Federation (AIFF) from 1992 to 2025.I. M. Vijayan was the inaugural Men's Player of the Year in 1992. No winner was announced in 1998 and 1999; the award was re-introduced in 2000 and won for the third time by Vijayan, who was also the first player to win more than once.Sunil Chhetri(pictured) has won the Men's Player of the Year Award a record seven times.Jo Paul Ancheri,Bhaichung Bhutia andLallianzuala Chhangte have each won the award twice. The AIFF Women's Player of the Year Award was introduced in 2001, withBembem Devi as the first winner. No winner was announced from 2002 to 2012; the award was re-introduced in 2013 and won for the second time by Bembem Devi. The Women's Player of the Year Award has also been won multiple times byBala Devi (thrice) andManisha Kalyan (twice). The AIFF has also awarded Promising Player of the Year Awards for men since 2013 and for women since 2015. (Full list...)

There have been 36 cabinets of Liechtenstein from 1861 to 2025. The government of Liechtenstein is the country'snational cabinet andexecutive body. It is chaired by theprime minister of Liechtenstein and consists of four government councillors, all of whom are also heads of specific government ministries. The seat of government is located in theGovernment Building inVaduz. Under the1921 constitution, one government councillor is also appointed as the deputy prime minister. Initially, governments only had two councillors and the deputy prime minister was not considered a full member of government. A constitutional amendment passed in 1965 increased the number of councillors to four and made the deputy prime minister a full member of government with voting rights. Since 10 April 2025, the incumbent government has been theBrigitte Haas cabinet, a coalition government led by thePatriotic Union with theProgressive Citizens' Party. (Full list...)

A radio version of the British television sitcomDad's Army was broadcast onBBC Radio 4 from 1974 to 1976. Produced by John Dyas and written byHarold Snoad andMichael Knowles, the scripts were adapted from the television episodes written byJimmy Perry andDavid Croft. A total of67 episodes across three series were broadcast from 28 January 1974 to 7 July 1976. The series starred the same actors who appeared in the television version, playing the same characters. Although most episodes of the television series were adapted for radio, several were not, as they were deemed too visual. All episodes from theninth television series were not adapted, as the radio series had ended by the time those television episodes were broadcast. At the request of the producer, some episode titles were changed from their television equivalents in order to sound more concise. The radio series was recorded in London; early episodes were recorded at thePlayhouse Theatre, while the remaining episodes were recorded at theParis Studios.John Snagge served as the show’s announcer. Nineteen individuals have held the office of President of Dartmouth College, aprivateIvy Leagueresearch university inHanover, New Hampshire. Established in 1769 byroyal charter, Dartmouth is governed by itsboard of trustees. Under the board’s bylaws, the president serves as the college’s chief executive officer, is a trusteeex officio, and sits on the board’s executive committee with broad authority over academic and administrative affairs. Dartmouth’s status as a private corporation liable to its trustees under its charter was affirmed by the United States Supreme Court inDartmouth College v. Woodward (1819). The line of presidents, often called the "Wheelock succession", runs from founderEleazar Wheelock to the current officeholder,Sian Beilock(pictured), who took office on June 12, 2023, and became the college’s first woman president upon her inauguration in September 2023. TheBabe Ruth Award is given annually to theMajor League Baseball (MLB) player with the best performance in thepostseason. The award, created in honor ofBabe Ruth by the New York City chapter of theBaseball Writers' Association of America (BBWAA), was first presented in 1949. It continued to be awarded exclusively for performances in theWorld Series until 2007, when the New York chapter of the BBWAA changed the award to cover the entire postseason. Though it is older than theWorld Series Most Valuable Player Award, which was not created until 1955, the Babe Ruth Award is considered less prestigious, because it is not sanctioned by MLB and is awarded several weeks after the World Series.Joe Page of theNew York Yankees was the first winner of the Babe Ruth Award, andJonathan Papelbon of theBoston Red Sox was the first winner since the award criteria changed to cover the entire postseason. In all, members of the Yankees have won the award sixteen times. Two players,Sandy Koufax andJack Morris, have won the award twice. (Full list...)
