The above requirements are from theWikimedia Foundation, andarenot subject to admin discretion. Additionally, admins must be satisfied that the requesting user has a demonstrated need for access (for example, work atnew page patrol,counter-vandalism, orsockpuppet investigations), and are permitted to decline applicants who meet these criteria but are otherwise unsuitable for access to this tool.
Once you have been granted the permission, you must check the boxPreferences →User profile →I would like to request this userright because I have done a lot of work in the past in recent changes patrolling and especially dealing with long-term abusers. I don't foresee myself using it a lot because behavioral evidence is usually a dead-ringer, but I still think it would be useful to have. I have read and understand the policies for use.Passengerpigeon (talk)06:02, 24 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
As a longstanding editor (and vandal-swatter) with a clean block record I request access to better be able to better identify unnoticed vandalism and long-term abuse from an IP. —Czello(music)08:52, 25 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, temporary accounts were deployed in the time I've been largely inactive. I've done a lot of work, e.g. on countervandalism and SPI, that is infeasible or impossible without cross-checking CIDR ranges and the other IP metadata that was previously publicly accessible. I haven't held off in order to take account of others' requests for this, so I hope my case is simple enough to evaluate given my contribution history. Cheers!Remsense 🌈 论12:42, 25 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Much of my Wikipedia work involves counter-vandalism and LTA. I have recently been involved in some cases in which it would have been useful to connect several TAs to their IP address to see if they were the same editor, and to find other edits by a TA who has committed vandalism. I have read and understood the policies for use and will use the feature only when necessary.CodeTalker (talk)17:46, 25 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Primarily for detecting abuse, including sockpuppet investigations to which I regularly contribute. —MarkH21talk19:05, 25 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
My main focus is on counter-vandalism and NPP, and being able to see IP data is very useful for fighting abuse.PadgriffinGriffin's Nest20:22, 26 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I do some counter-vandalism with Huggle, and I often click through the side panels to look for recent vandalism patterns in the page history. I'm requesting TAIV to spot-check these bad edit patterns, which used to be possible with IPs. It is sometimes a genuine coincidence, and in that case I want to give everyone a patient level 1 template with a nice edit description. When it isn't, I'd like TAIV to not waste my limited energy on LTAs, and forward to AIV or SPI as needed. I confirm I've read the disclosure policy.Mlkj (talk)01:35, 27 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
