Karmelo Anthony

[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect'stalk page or in adeletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion wasto be determined byTalk:Killing of Austin Metcalf/Archive 1#RFC: Name of alleged killer. If the discussion there results in a consensus to exclude the subject's name, this redirect should then be deleted (if non-admin: tag with{{db-xfd}}). --Tavix(talk)17:40, 4 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

WP:BLPCRIME -- this is a person (and a minor) who has not been convicted of a crime, whose name is being redirected toward that of a killing.Nat Gertler (talk)18:02, 18 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep. While they are prominently mentioned in the article, there is no BLP issue with the redirect. If you don't think they should be mentioned then discuss that on the talk page where the current consensus is to include the name.Thryduulf (talk)18:13, 18 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
There is not a consensus there to keep the name; there appears to be one person inquiring about a redirect, one who is using some garbled language butseems to be against inclusion, citingWP:BLPCRIME makes what they call a "tough call" for inclusion, and one who seems to want to include it. --Nat Gertler (talk)18:58, 18 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Before your comment there were three comments, one implicitly saying it should be included if that's in accordance with policy and two people saying to include it (one explicitly quoting the policy). That is a consensus to include, it's not a strong one, but it is one. I see you've now removed the name citing the same policyR. G. Checkers used to justify its inclusion. I don't have a strong opinion either way (I've not looked at the evidence), but you should have discussed it on the talk page first rather than just removing. Regardless, the redirect should follow the article: it's useful if there is a mention, it isn't if there isn't. I'm going to wait until that is settled before opining further regards the redirect.Thryduulf (talk)19:20, 18 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I think it's a stretch for someone who asked for a pointer to policy thanking the person who responded with pointer to the policy as "implicitly saying it should be included", particularly since the person who pointed to the policy describes it as "suggests that we should be cautious in including the name of an accused nonpublic figure". I adjust my statement that the one person seems to be against inclusion; I was too busy dealing with the muddled language in the middle of his message rather than the "tough call" he makes at the end. And now there's one (me) who definitely wants to exclude. --Nat Gertler (talk)20:07, 18 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strong Delete- Minor not convicted of any crime, which was discussed previously atWikipedia:Articles for deletion/Karmelo Anthony. I have recommended atWP:BLPN that his name be permanently deleted from Wikipedia. --Jax 0677 (talk)19:26, 18 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete perNatGertler andJax 0677. This namespace can be a redirect if and only if there's a conviction. It may be too soon, or it may never be a good redirect. It takes more time and patience to tell.JFHJr ()21:21, 18 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Additional thoughts: this article was speedy'd after correctly-done blanking for severe BLP reasons and this redirect should be deleted for the same reasons. I hope the closing admin can see the old versions and considerssalt in order to prevent further recreation before a legal resolution. When that happens, it can be unprotected or recreated by an admin. As pointed out above, this is a minor facing significant criminal charges. SeeWP:BLPCRIME.JFHJr ()22:07, 18 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment There is also a notable athlete namedCarmelo Anthony, for whom this could be a plausible misspelling. The existence of the other individual makes me hesitant to propose retargeting, but I think it's worth mentioning in the discussion. -Presidentmantalk ·contribs (Talkback)21:50, 18 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep.WP:BLPCRIMEmight be a reason not to mention Anthony in theKilling of Austin Metcalf article. But given that heis mentioned there, the redirect should stand. Obviously, there are lots of readers who are searching for his name[1] Do we want these readers to make it to theKilling of Austin Metcalf article or not?StAnselm (talk)23:51, 18 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The name was removed from the article earlier today, and reinserted by an IP user; it's presence there should not be considered stable. --Nat Gertler (talk)01:24, 19 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
And it has been bounced back and forth again since that was stated. --Nat Gertler (talk)13:16, 19 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
    I have reported the issue atWP:AN andWP:RFPP. --Jax 0677 (talk)14:46, 19 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment. If there is a consensus at the article not to mention the alleged killer's name for BLP reasons, then it probably would make sense to not have this target there, but I really don't see such a consensus yet. In other contexts, the thing that comes to mind is a misspelling ofCarmelo Anthony. So, we've either got a reasonable target of the article on the killing, or as a misspelled name of a basketball star. Either keeping (if there is consensus to include the alleged killer's name in the article) or retargeting (if there is not consensus to do that) makes sense, but deletion seems weird. —Red-tailed hawk (nest)20:57, 19 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, if the consensus is to retain the redirect (and the mention in the article) then we would need a hatnote.StAnselm (talk)21:24, 19 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Sync with article content. If its talk-page consensus is to include the name, redirect makes sense (weak support); if to exclude, then definitely do not have a redirect (against redir guideline to have a redirect to a target that does not mention the redirect, and goes against the presumably policy+guideline-based on consensus reasoning).DMacks (talk)22:30, 19 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Keep if the outcome of the RfC is to name the suspect (which I voted for in the RfC); but if not, then delete.Levivich (talk)16:46, 21 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Keep perWP:RFOR. This is the original Japanese name forKaettekita Mario Bros., a modified version of the game released only in Japan.Golem08 (talk)17:49, 18 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Per what source, is this translated in? According to google translate, it returns to "Return of Mario Bros." and according to apple translate, it translates to something else, I haven’t done my research on this topic, but it doesn’t seem like it translates to said.Valorrr(lets chat)02:51, 19 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
"Original title" does not mean "your own translations" as often times original tiles aren't directly translated due to weird outcomes:Huis Clos for example. It literally means "shut door(way)" but it's generally "No Exit" in English.JFHJr ()03:10, 19 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
